Which International Schools Are Nearby?

It's a non-profit school with more than 1,700 students aged 3 to 18, and has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma since 1989, according to the school. Its school bus covers the area: around half of ISKL students ride it, and 40% of those come from Jalan Ampang, Ampang Hilir, U-Thant and Ukay Heights.

Hospitals and Healthcare

Getting Around Ampang Hilir
Most residents drive. There's no train station inside the neighbourhood itself, but the main roads are close: Jalan Ampang into the city, the AKLEH elevated highway, and the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), DUKE and SPE highways.
The nearest rail stop for much of the area is Ampang Park, on Jalan Ampang towards KLCC. It has two stations: one on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line and one on the MRT Putrajaya Line, which opened there in 2023. They aren't connected inside the gates, so you tap out and walk between them. Further east, Jelatek and Dato Keramat stations, also on the Kelana Jaya Line, serve the Jalan Ampang side.
If you'll commute to an office, try the drive at rush hour before you choose a building. Morning traffic into the city is the thing residents mention most.
What Kinds of Homes Are in Ampang Hilir?
A mix of established condominiums and landed houses, many of them low-density compared with the city centre. For a feel of where families live, ISKL's own bus route list names stops at condominiums such as Seriska, Villa Putra Putri, Gerbang Ampang Hilir and The Edge of U Thant, and along Jalan Ampang at Embassy View, Pavilion Embassy and D'Rapport Residence, now Cappella Embassy.
Because the area is long established, most homes for sale are in completed buildings, bought from their current owner (a subsale) rather than from a developer. You can see exactly what you're buying, but check each building's age, upkeep and tenure (freehold or leasehold) one by one.
Can Foreigners Buy Property in Ampang Hilir?
Yes. Ampang Hilir is in Kuala Lumpur, where foreign buyers must pay at least RM1 million per unit, and each purchase needs approval from the relevant authority, which your lawyer applies for. Stamp duty on the transfer is a flat 8% for foreign buyers.
Across the boundary in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, the usual minimum for foreigners is higher. One exception is Cappella Embassy: its address is in Selangor, but the project already has special approval, so foreigners can buy there from RM1 million, the same as in KL. Our guide to the foreign-buyer rules and how much cash you'll need explain the rest.
Cappella Embassy: A Completed Option Beside Ampang Hilir
Cappella Embassy, formerly D'Rapport Residences, is five completed towers on Jalan Nipah, off Jalan Ampang, on the same road as the Korean Embassy. By the developer's map, Gleneagles is about 350m away and ISKL about 1.6km. Its homes run from 1,109 to 2,260 sq ft, including three-bedroom-plus-utility layouts sized for families, and it's being renewed by its new developer, TSLAW Land. Read what changed when D'Rapport became Cappella Embassy.
